Abstract

Introduction: the agro-industrial sector is key to global food security, but has high rates of occupational accidents and illnesses.

Objective: to analyze the Scopus and DIMENSIONS indexed literature on occupational risk management in agroindustry.

Method: this is a theoretical and documentary study following the PRISMA 2020 methodology.

Results: Scientific production in this area was limited before 2012, with progressive growth until 2017 and a notable acceleration since 2019, except for a drop in 2023. The United States (24 authors) and Brazil (20) lead in participation, followed by Guatemala, Peru, and South Korea. Among the most productive institutions are the University of Colorado (12 authors), the Federal University of Grande Dourados, and the Pantaleon Group (7 each). Eight authors account for 22% of publications, with Butler-Dawson, Dally, Jaramillo, Krisher, and Newman standing out with three articles each. Research primarily addresses mechanical, chemical, ergonomic, and biological risks, while also increasingly incorporating organizational, psychosocial, and environmental factors. Surveys and interviews predominate, along with statistical analysis, MCDA methodologies, and machine learning. The trend is evolving toward comprehensive models that articulate health, sustainability, and technology. Cultural and economic barriers persist, as well as gaps in regional studies, effectiveness metrics, and consideration of psychosocial risks, making interdisciplinary collaboration key to sustainable interventions.

Conclusion: The urgent need to research effective and collaborative prevention strategies to reduce the accident rate in the agro-industrial sector is emphasized.
