Perceived work capacity and their relationship with individual and occupational factors in aged workers of the second level of health attention

Objective: Ageing of work forces claims an urgent need to study work ability dynamic in relation to factors that operates at work and extra labour life. This study analysed the relationship between perceived work ability with individual and work related factors. Material and method: Work Ability Index (WAI) and individual and work factors questionnaires were applied to a sample (n=422) of workers of second health attention level aged ≥ 45 years. A correlation and a logistic regression analysis were performed to explore relation in matter. Results: Mean score of WAI in men and women was 40,2 (DE=5,2) and 39,8 (DE=5,1), respectively. Work ability decrease with age in a male group. Poor perceived health status, muscle skeletal and psychosomatic symptoms were associated with poor work ability. One’s own work control, work satisfaction and ergonomics disadvantages were the work factors with strongest association (OR) with WAI. Conclusions: WAI score represent a useful measure for work ability evaluation that reflects impact of individual and factors at work.
