Introduction: Occupational health problems affect various levels of the worker, from the individual to society in general, impacting the family, the company and work productivity. Health complications can lead to a decrease or inability to work, manifesting themselves in absences and presenteeism at work.
Objective: To examine the impact of health problems on the presenteeism of nursing professionals in a public health institution in Metropolitan Lima.
Methods: This research is quantitative in nature and adopts a non-experimental cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 84 nursing professionals from the institution in question.
Results: The findings highlight that 4 out of 10 nurses received a diagnosis of chronic or musculoskeletal disease in the last year. In addition, moderate and high levels of presenteeism were observed among nursing staff. Likewise, a positive relationship was identified between health problems and occupational presenteeism of nursing professionals, and the impact of health problems on occupational presenteeism in nursing techniques.
Conclusions: This research highlights the direct relationship between health problems and presenteeism at work, evidencing the urgent need to address these health challenges in order to preserve quality and efficiency in the provision of health services, both in the case of nurses and nursing technicians
