Factors associated with occupational noise-induced hearing loss: a bibliometric review

Introduction: Noise-induced occupational hearing loss is a relevant public health problem, with a significant impact on workers’ quality of life and work capacity.Objective: To characterize the scientific production on factors associated with occupational noise-induced hearing loss.
Methods: A bibliometric review with a quantitative approach was conducted following the PRISMA methodology. The search was performed in PubMed, SciELO, and Google Scholar. Articles published between 2015 and 2025 in English and Spanish were included. Previously defined inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied. Data analysis was carried out using RStudio with the Bibliometrix (Biblioshiny) package.
Results: A total of 425 documents were identified, of which 40 were selected. An increase in publications was observed from 2020 onwards, with the highest output in 2024. The main associated factors identified were noise exposure, inadequate use of hearing protection, and habits such as smoking and alcohol consumption.
Conclusions: Scientific evidence confirms the association between noise exposure and hearing loss. Gaps remain regarding combined risk factors and long-term effects, highlighting the need to strengthen research in occupational health.
