Abstract

Introduction: Organizational learning has become established as a central concept for understanding how organizations adapt to complex and changing work environments. Its evolution is particularly relevant in the field of occupational health, where knowledge, prevention, and continuous improvement are strategic elements for protecting workers. Analyzing the historical transformation of the concept makes it possible to identify the shift from a structural and operational perspective toward a more human, dynamic, and comprehensive approach.

Objective: To analyze the conceptual evolution of organizational learning from the perspective of occupational health between the periods 1985–1990 and 2019–2024, identifying changes in its theoretical approaches, core dimensions, and its relationship with occupational risk prevention.

Methods: An exploratory systematic documentary review was conducted. The search was carried out in ten scientific databases and Google Scholar, including publications in Spanish and English. Inclusion and exclusion criteria focused on the presence of explicit conceptual definitions of organizational learning within the field of occupational health. The selection process followed a method of systematic source organization and refinement.

Results: A total of 6 570 records were identified, of which 17 met the established criteria. The analysis showed that early definitions emphasize routines, organizational memory, and managerial innovation, whereas more recent formulations incorporate human, psychosocial, and strategic dimensions, linking organizational learning to well-being, prevention, and safety culture.

Conclusion: Organizational learning has evolved from an operational mechanism into a strategic organizational capability oriented toward human development, resilience, and occupational health.
