Peer Review Process

This journal uses a double-blind peer review system, where neither authors nor reviewers identify with each other.

However, the journal accepts the modality of opening the peer review, in accordance with the new precepts of Open Science, with the prior authorization of the authors and referees.

Likewise, it is the disposition of the journal to open data, because in case the referees or the Editorial Committee consider it, the authors will be asked to deliver primary documentation (databases and other procedures), in harmony with the Open Science policy  through sites Zenodo, DataCite, SciELO Data, etc.

The review is usually carried out by three evaluators, who are previously requested to do it, if they are external reviewers, the evaluators of the institution who are unable to perform the review shall notify it in the moment of receive the request, Reviewers have 2 weeks to submit their comments to the editor in charge of the article (by completing online a mandatory form) and their recommendation (accept the submission, publishable with modifications, re-evaluable, and non-publishable), additionally, they have the option of uploading a file in Word format with other considerations and comments about the revised article.

The reviewers verifying, among others, the following aspects:

Does the article's theme fit with the journal's profile?

Does the article provide valuable contributions to existing knowledge?

Is the article's content up-to-date?

Is the presentation of the article adequate (coherent, organized and written in an understandable style, well spelled)?

Are the bibliographic references relevant to the subject, current, necessary and in the correct format?

The editor in charge will send an evaluation summary to the author with the decision. In case of modifications that are required, the author will have a period of time to make them and submit a corrected version, which will be subject to further evaluation. There will be as many review rounds as necessary.

At the end of the proceedings, the author shall receive a message containing the conclusions on the submission; at the time of its publication, a notice to enable access to it.

Publication Frequency

The journal has a quarterly frequency. The volume corresponding to each year includes three (3) issues comprising the periods from January to April, May to August, and September to December

Each issue will have, at least, 12 articles. The proposal of all types of manuscripts isn´t limited provided that, strictly speaking, not less than 65% are research articles (new terminology that includes original articles, bibliographic reviews, and case presentations).

The journal will apply the continuous publication system from Number 3 of Volume 23, corresponding to the year 2022, suppressing the pagination, with the articles separated by sections and identified according to the registration number on the platform.

However, the journal publishes "in progress", with the articles of an issue at the time when the entire established process has been completed, and generally begins prior to the period of validity of the issue and during the period of validity of the same.

The Editorial Committee will decide, in the event that there are two issues in progress simultaneously, which of them will appear on the home page, which will be informed to the users on the page itself together with the instruction for locating the other issue in progress, generally in the "previous issues" tab.

Each time an article or group of articles in progress is published, users will be notified with the table of contents updated up to that point. This notification includes the title of the article in English, the author collective, and the link to its location.

It includes, as an additional policy, the obligation to close each number with a deadline on the 15th of the last month of its period of validity, that is, April, August, and December, respectively.
